What was the most important thing you learned in MUN, and how can MUN be applied to your every day life?
I've been in Model UN for two years already and every year I like it even more. I think that what i learned the most is viewing the problems of other countries. Before i never actually thought about other countries perspectives to the world. I barely paid attention to problems in the U.S. but with Model UN it has thought me that every country is important no matter their status. Another thing that Model UN has thought me is how to speak in a big crowd with out getting nervous. Before, that was a big problem for me. Last year when i first got in Model UN I was still kind of nervous. Every time we went to compete i was eager to go but still nervous. Now it is very easy for me to go inside a room in front of 100 kids and talk without getting nervous. This year I also had the opportunity to go to MUNSA and at first i was nervous because it was my first time in there. But once we started the simulation I got relaxed.
I think Model UN can be used in your everyday life because it helps you on your speaking skills. It also teaches you on how to write a good paper and how to do your citations. These skills would come in handy when we start college. It helps you speak in a huge crowd of people that when you have to speak in a small group it is so easy for you. Model UN is also used in everyday life by giving different topics on problems around the world. This is useful because you get more informed about what goes on around the world. I think Model UN is very useful in everyday life and you can also learn a lot by being in this class. I hope to still be in Model UN for the next two years that i have left in high school.
